Become an Instructor and Improve your Technique!

Are you an Intermediate to Advanced level skier?  The CANSI level 1 instructor certification course being held at Nelson Nordic Ski Club on Dec 10/11 could be just for you!  Besides having the opportunity to become a certified instructor and introduce people to the wonderful sport of cross country skiing, you will also learn ways to improve your own technique. For more information, go to http://www.cansi.ca/en/courses/ or get in touch with Denys at denys3@shaw.ca to sign up.

Haywood NorAm - Save the Date!

Black Jack will again be hosting a Haywood NorAm on Dec 16th, 17th and 18th.  This year we will be doing a 3-Day Mini Tour of distance races, sprint races and a final day with a pursuit style race.  The organizational committee is hard at work  but we will be needing volunteers to fill positions during the race days. There will be opportunities to help all 3 days or just one day if that’s all you have available.  If you are interested in helping out but haven’t been contacted by a committee member, please contact Linda Merlo at linda_merlo@yahoo.ca or 250-368-3678.  We’ll find you a spot!
Also of note, during the NorAm weekend, Black Jack and Nelson Nordic Ski Club families will be hosting 30 cross country ski athletes from the Nakkertok Ski Club (just across the river from Ottawa).  In turn, our athletes will have the opportunity to be hosted by Nakkertok Ski Club families during the Eastern Canadian Championships, which take place in February.  This is a great opportunity for our athletes and our communities to shine.  As part of our hosting duties, we will be responsible for waxing all the skies for our guest athletes during the NorAm races.  If you have some time and maybe an extra wax bench you can bring to the club, our dedicated wax team would greatly appreciate any extra hands that could help during the weekend.  High level waxing experience is not necessary, just a willingness to scrape and iron!  If you are able to help, please contact Dave Wood at dave@blackjackskiteam.com or 250-231-9271.
Thank you!
