My apologies to those who expected finish times but our club is trying to decrease our volunteer burn out and the board of directors felt that since this is meant to be a fun, participation event this would be an appropriate time to minimize our volunteers required.
Most of our usual team of volunteers indicated that they would like to ski in the Loppet instead of being part of the timing team so we opted to put a clock at the finish line for participants to check at the end of their race.
Thank you for coming out to support our club event and we hope to see you again in the future.

On February 3rd, Black Jack Skier Development will host the popular Tour de Soup day at the ski trails. There will be soup available at all three cabins from noon to 2 pm. Bring your own mug and spoon. The six soups are generously provided by local restaurants. There is no cost for a trail pass but we respectfully ask that you consider a donation to the skier development fund. This fund helps pay for all the great programming for children and youth at the club from age 3-25. We have over 100 people in the program and it gives them a sport for life and skills that translate to all areas of life. There will be donation jars in each of the cabins and at the trail head. The kids will also have bake tables at each of the cabins if you want a little something else other than soup.
Come out and enjoy our beautiful trails and meet members of the team from young to senior (in ski race terms anyway!)
Already a record year for Black Jack membership with 753 signed up as of Dec 1, bringing Black Jack to a very close second in CCBC's Club Membership Contest. Next year.

Biathlon and Gibbards are ready for both classic and skating. We have good early season skiing conditions with good coverage (thanks to extensive mowing and brush cutting) but with the snow still a bit soft.
The two snowcats and one skidoo were busy the better part of yesterday thanks to Ethan, Rick and Howard. There will be more grooming this morning, Saturday Nov 4.

Black Jack Ski Club has been awarded the 2016 Community Champion Award in recognition of their generous support of the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon Division, for hosting Slopes for Hope this year. Matt Toner, President and Penny Johnson, Slopes for Hope Coordinator, are pictured with the certificate.
The groomer was successfully repaired today so the trails will be groomed tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb 22)!
There will be limited grooming of the Black Jack trails on Tuesday, February 21 and possibly Wednesday due to some of our equipment being down. Our grooming team is working to have the equipment functional as soon as possible and we will post any updates here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

" I was skiing today and looking at all the Lynx tracks that (the kiosk sign mentioned) was out along Gibbards Trail.
I had skied up to Golden Queen and decided to turn left to take one of the trails back down to Jeldness. Not 15-20 ft in front of me was a Lynx sitting on the trail looking for bunnies off in the trees.
He just looked at me and didn’t seem to concerned. I was watching him for 5-10 min and as he ambled down the trail I skied a few strides behind him. He looked at me again and went back to his hunt.
After a few minutes he stepped of into the woods and headed down towards Jeldness. "

Sharpen your cross-country ski skills or try another technique at Black Jack's Women on Skis, Saturday, February 4th. Small group lessons and advice at your level in classic or skate. Rentals available at half-price if you want to try something new and don't have the equipment.
Cost includes day pass, instruction, locally catered lunch, snacks and fun. $60 for members and $70 for non-members. A perfect and practical pre-Valentine's Day gift. A club fundraiser too!
