Black Jack Brings home the Kootenay Cup for 2012!

This past weekend Black Jack Ski Club hosted the 28th Annual Black Jack Loppet and Kootenay Cup #5 ski races. There were participants from all around the Kootenays, as well as from the Okanagan, Washington, and Montana.

The Loppet was a mass start skate race with distances up to 30km. The Black Jack Club Champion trophies were captured by Kelly Geisheimer for the women with a time of 1:45:34 for 30 km, and Aaron Scott for the men who skied the 30 km distance in 1:40:25. The junior club trophies were awarded to Sage Robine for the girls and Daniel Merlo for the boys.

This season the Kootenay Cup series had races at Golden Nordic, Kimberley Nordic, Nelson Nordic, Toby Creek  and Black Jack. The Black Jack Kootenay Cup this past Sunday was an individual start classic race which was well attended by the young skiers from Black Jack. This was the final race of this season's Kootenay Cup series and Black Jack earned the most points in the series and won the cup!  The Cup will be on display in the Rich Thorpe cabin until the next series is over. Check it out!

Thank you to all the hard work from the volunteers and to the support from Kootenay Nordic Sports, Gericks Sports Trail, the Alpine Grind, and Jelly Bean Junction, to make this event possible.
